Nick Clegg has managed to hold onto his Sheffield Hallam constituency despite Labour holding all other Sheffield seats.
The Liberal Democrat leader beat his closest rival, Nicola Bates of the Conservatives by more than 15,000 votes, more twice as many than in the last election in 2005.
The remaining Sheffield wards continue to be held by Labour, including the key Central seat, which was won by Labour's Paul Blomfield by just 165 votes over the Liberal Democrats' Paul Scriven.
Sheffield hit the national headines during yesterday's voting after hundreds of Sheffield residents were turned away from polling stations at 10pm due to large numbers of queues and claims of inadequate staffing.
The polling stations, which included Nick Clegg's Sheffield Hallam, were forced to stop accepting votes at the 10pm deadline, meaning some people were left without the chance to vote.
