As we approached the hotel a pair of black swans welcomed us. Our twin bedded room was large enogh that we could move around without bumping into each other. An extra large bathroom with easy to use fixtures and safety bars in the shower and by the toilet work well. Anyone with mobility issues could manage with a ground floor room. A nice lounge area ( Try the Shrewsbury Lager) and excellent food in the dining room round out a visit. Knowledgeable staff and a welcomong glass of sherry await you at checking. Depending on your preference the out if town location may be good or bad. Ideal for a quiet night, not so good for those who like to walk through a new place and see the sights in the evening or before breakfast.

Prior to booking I had read the reviews which were on the whole very encouraging. However, when we arrived we were welcomed and directed to or 'Executive room'. Appreciating that it was a very old building with lovely features however, our bed was possibly as old as the hotel as it was very uncomfortable; the bathroom had many broken tiles which gave a poor impression. We chose to eat in the restaurant , the service was excellent as was the food which continued through to breakfast.
Overall it is a pleasant hotel but located no where close to walk to , unlikely to revisit as Shrewsbury is very limited on what it has to offer.

Stayed here last night as part of a wedding party and was very impressed with everything the hotel has to offer.
Our room was comfortable and tastefully furnished with plenty of wardrobe space and hangers. The usual tea and coffee making facilities are at hand and everything is up to a good 4 star hotel standard.
The most memorable aspect of the hotel is the location and historic nature of the building. The breakfast room is in the old part of the hotel, with exposed beams and open fireplaces. The breakfast itself was plentiful and fresh with staff serving toast and tea. I had some great scrambled eggs and other hot food is cooked to order.
Our wedding meal was very good and the service was efficient and friendly throughout. We found all the staff excellent, from reception to bar staff to cleaners and management.
The wedding party was a huge success, certainly aided by the choice of venue and the professionalism of all the staff. A further pleasant surprise was the reasonable room rates and the prices at the bar - not the exorbitant costs charged by some hotels.
This is a memorable, well run and delightful hotel - highly recommended.

Recently visited this little gem for the first time and cannot wait to go back. This place is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of city life, and is the perfect place to get away and relax. The staff are outstanding! From the moment we walked through the door they couldn't do enough for us, especially Malcolm who is a cracking fella and very good company. Now I've eaten at a lot of restaurants over the years and the food here is up with the best restaurants I've been to. Everything from the starters, to the desserts was fantastic, and the service from the restaurant manger was 1st class. The room was clean and well set out, no complaints at all. The building itself is very impressive, and like I said at the start its a great place to go and relax and enjoy good food and good service. Can't wait to go back.

Wanted somewhere special for a 90th birthday celebration. Disabled parking bay is close to the reception door. Often hotels provide ground floor rooms but then there is a long walk to the public areas. The hotel itself is quite compact that this was not an issue. The room was light and airy with plenty of space in the bathroom to accommodate someone in a wheelchair. The food was excellent, service attentive, certainly better than a Michelin starred restaurant I had recently been to. Main thing was everyone enjoyed themselves and would come back again.

Great hotel with excellent food. Very quiet but let down by the brick-like pillows.

Beautiful location in open countryside but within minutes of Shrewsbury and the Battlefield visitor attractions. The staff were welcoming and customer service was above and beyond excellent, the GM Malcolm and Head Receptionist Issy were a mine of local information to make our stay memorable. The decor in restaurant was charming and the breakfast beautifully cooked, perfect service by Vicky and locally sourced produce Black pudding pleased my husband ( a connoisseur of these things !)
Only drawback to prevent 5 star rating was the room, although spotlessly clean, had tired decor and linen and the bathroom was badly designed and very tired..
None of the niggles would prevent us returning to this gem of Shropshire.

From the moment we arrived it felt like we had stepped into tranquility .... It was a perfect late spring evening and we sat in the garden watching the sunset with a glass of wine. We had a lovely nights sleep which was a surprise as there was a wedding in full swing when we arrived, but we were undisturbed. However the best part of our visit was the amazing staff working in the restaurant, nothing was to much trouble and they truly made our experience memorable ...Thank You 😊

Other half booked a surprise stay at above, very good room clean and quite even though there was a wedding on. Did not have an evening meal at the hotel as travelled in to Shrewsbury (couple of miles). Restaurant though was very popular on our return and had a comfortable evening just sitting in the lounge area people watching, until the early hours. Breakfast was a mix of help yourself and eggs cooked as you like. Would have been good if breakfast was served to you but at least this way you can have as much as you want. Staff very good polite and all worked hard. Would have got 5 stars but the leisure facilities are not at the same place so a little disappointed.

The Pergola on the lawns here are a perfect location for a special wedding. The hotel is quaint and quirky and filled with history. Our suite overlooked the gardens and had a four poster bed, Jacuzzi and all the old world trimmings. It was not as clean as you might expect as we found dead flies on the windowsills. The food was of good quality but just average. Still a great wedding venue

Visited on 23 April for a Fine Dining evening with friends and decided to stay over. The reception staff were really helpful as were all the other staff we encountered. Despite there being a wedding event we were treated really well. Genuine kindness rather than the false 'have a nice day stuff' some hotels seem to trade in. The Fine dining menu was really great and a good evening was had by all.

The room was clean tidy and comfortable and breakfast was excellent too. Thank you.

Please read.
I should start by saying that the Hotel and Rooms are excellent and well worth the money.
Now I'd like to move quickly on to the customer service we received during our stay. My partner and I have never experienced such excellent service at any of the hotels we've stayed in. As you'd expect from any hotel, the staff are warm and friendly but the staff at the Albright Hussey go the extra mile and turned our planned nice weekend away into a pleasurable experience which we Will be returning to experience again.
We started our stay with an Afternoon Tea, followed that up in the evening with their 5 Course Gourmet menu, a night in our excellently equipped suite and then woke the next morning to once again join the restaurant team to enjoy an excellent breakfast. We finished our stay by having a fantastic Sunday Lunch.

The food can only be described as superlative. The service however was the best we've ever experienced and special mention needs to go to Javier and Malcolm who were a credit to the hotel and made our stay special.

If the owner of the Albright Hussey reads this review can I add that we will be back, our stay was exceptional and whatever your paying Javier and Malcolm isn't enough..

Thank you.

Gorgeous building. Quiet rural location with views over the Shropshire countryside. Only a short drive into Shrewsbury town centre. Lovely food. I was a little concerned we might be kept awake by the wedding party in full swing. However we were in room 8 and didn't hear a thing. Our room was described as one of the smaller rooms. It didn't feel small, was well appointed, with plenty of wardrobe space and had a proper bath room. We really enjoyed our stay.

It's in an excellent location, right next to the battlefield site of the 1403 battle of Shrewsbury, and if you are looking to relax, the farmers field next door usually has some lambs in it.

Absolutely fantastic day on Easter saturday. My sons wedding breakfast and evening reception at the hotel was second to none. I can't thank the staff enough for the calm and very professional but also very personal approach to the whole day, including squeezing in an additional guest at the very last minute. The transition from day to night celebration was seamless. They were all wonderful, couldn't do enough for us all, the venue superb, very luxurious and very very special. And my suite was fab! I wouldn't hesitate at recommending this hotel for any function or stay. Thank you all so much.

Stayed here last weekend to celebrate our 38th Wedding Anniversary. Really couldn't fault the attentive service we received from all the staff. Everyone made us feel like we belonged. Always greeted with a smile and light conversation. Truly made us welcome and their interaction and attention to detail felt very genuine and personal. All the food we had was beautifully cooked and tasty and very well presented. We were made to feel special. Lovely to begin the evening in the cocktail bar whilst we perused the menu. Breakfast was well cooked and delicious too. A few tiny faults with the room. It was comfortable and clean with beautiful views across the fields, including the sheep and tiny lambs right outside our window. However, the bathroom heated towel rail leaked and couldn't be used. This is a room for two people and it seemed odd that there was only one bathrobe, one glass in the bathroom and one flannel, and one pack of yummy biscuits. Very small TV, wall mounted on the wall opposite the bed, probably needs upgrading to meet current expected standards from a hotel of this calibre. All the staff showed a genuine interest and care for our needs and satisfaction, even down to the cleaner, who was very helpful in suggesting places to visit and asked the following day if we had a good day out. Lovely warm and friendly and welcoming hotel with great staff and great old fashioned professional service.

My family stayed here for the first time and we were all very surprised at how nice it was.
My sister had booked it and we arrived to find a beautifully presented hotel with charm and character.
Check in was very quick and our rooms in the new wing were of a good size, nicely decorated and full of little touches such as cotton wool balls, sewing kit and sweets, not to mention home made biscuits. Surprised only 1 dressing gown in each room.
Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and use of local produce extended to breakfast.
All staff were very friendly and welcoming. Excellent value and would most certainly visit again.

Just returned from this hotel & found it absolutely charming, and full of character.

Very quick check in & room was lovely, just the right size & temperature.

Unfortunately didn't stay for dinner as was fully booked but breakfast was delicious.

Will definitely recommend.

This is a charming small hotel with the most attentive staff I have come across. They seem very passionate and do everything necessary to please. Rooms are decorated in a dated and tired fashion. Carpets are old and there is a poor temperature control between bathrooms and rooms. Dinner menu is very limited and does not complement the hotel's star rating. You can pay £30-£40 a head for dinner when the hotel stay will cost you just £70. They could do with expanding their lunch and dinner menu and offer more variety and different price bands.
Room sizes can vary, some adequate and some very small. Carpets need a good cleaning. Overall you pay for what you get in here. I recommend it for the price but maybe go out to eat if you want more variety. Rooms feel insecure as there is no extra lock or chain on the doors from inside. Rooms are not soundproof and if someone talks in the hallway you can hear them very well.

This hotel could be summed up in one word: 'characterful'...both in terms of the building and the owner.

It was such a nice change to travel on business and stay at an independently owned hotel - one where the staff were courteous but were allowed to express their individuality and behave spontaneously rather than adopt 'the company patter'.

Some of the décor was not to my taste, but this was a personal opinion and there were so many pluses: spacious room, a restaurant steeped in history (15th century I believe), superb food, and a conspicuous owner with a real sense of humour and attention to great service.

Definitely recommended.

Was actually in February 2015 as a birthday gift. Hotel room as luxurious and in style with the keeping of the hotel. The meal (a seven course) was amazing and we had the drinks package which not only complimented perfectly but was competitively priced too. The breakfast was great as well couldn't fault it at all.
