Lovely venue. The breakfast are very expensive but fairly plain. You would expect a better quality breakfast for the money you pay

Beautiful property and grounds, close to Shrewsbury. Room (#10) is large and comfortable. TV small and free WIFI good when you can log in. Reception and dining room staff either patronizing (Fawlty Towers) or flustered. Reception gave me a scrap of paper with taxi phone number and told me to book it myself. Waiter seems to enjoy making disparaging jokes about his ā€œamerican cousinsā€. Breakfast otherwise excellent.

An amazing last minute stay after the other group accommodation we had booked had let us down. Managed to book everything and have lovely clean rooms for 12 people hoping to have a hen weekend within the hour. Malcolm the manager couldnā€™t have been more helpful and kind and helped us throw our hen a little party in their lounge area after what had been a very stressful day. Rooms were lovely and cosy and staff were out of this world. Thank you so much Malcolm you really did save the day!!

Very good, Granddaughters wedding. Weather not good , but everything else was very good. Used to go there in my working days, for lunch, and Xmas meals. I think the owner was Ken Micah then.

A lovely location, ancient and full of atmosphere. Food was excellent with bar prices a bit hefty but can be expected for a 4 star hotel.

The hotel looks lovely from the outside, we checked in staff not over friendly but she was efficient. The room was clean overall but a large spider in the light fitting and a few live ones in room i know this is not hotels fault but i feel rooms should be checked before guests arrival. The breakfast was served on a cold plate and the food was cold, it was mentioned to staff and they did not charge us for one of our breakfasts but i found the cost of Ā£15 per guest rather expensive for what it was

A last minute booking as a train connection was missed. Very helpful staff and a real bath- great after a dayā€™s walking. Breakfast was spot on: perfectly cooked and quickly served. Top marks!

Lovely wedding venue.
We were part of the wedding party and we enjoyed our day however there were a few things we were disappointed with. Firstly the venue isn't exclusive which was okay until somebody was wondering around in tracksuits as we were taking pictures. Also, they only had one member of staff on the bar all night so trying to get a drink took ages. The receptionist was quite rude and abrupt especially when helping the wedding party know were to go as we hadn't been there before. We slept over in the honeymoon suite the night before and had breakfast in there too. We were told and we asked again if our dirty plates could be taken out for the bride and groom the following night and this was not carried out which was very disappointing.
All in all, a great venue with lovely rooms which made for a great wedding but if the above were handled correctly it would have been outstanding.

Came for a wedding. A lovely venue and the reception staff were very accomodating and helpful. The room we had for the night was nice, but every corner had a cobweb and a spider. Would have hoped for a bit better considering its price and reputation.

We booked a two night stay and on both days the venue was holding a wedding. Once checked into our clean but basic room we went into the bar and was told we were not allowed to sit in the sitting area and we had to sit outside due to the function. (It was raining).
Breakfast was very poor, food arrived after a long wait very dry and over cooked.
Front door locked and no night Porter (10pm)

Attended a private function in Marquee so didn't see much if hotel itself. However, the loos were good and the receptionist was really very helpful.

Attended family wedding. Hotel is in a beautiful setting and the staff were very welcoming and friendly, room was dated and shabby. The mattress was cheap and not very comfortable. breakfast was well overpriced. For what I paid I would have expected a lot more. I have stayed in other hotels in Shrewsbury and have had better quality rooms and breakfast for a lot less money. I don't think I would stop there again.
As a taxi driver in Shrewsbury and knowledgeable ambassador of the town I think the hotel needs to improve in a lot of areas before I could recommend it to any my customers.

Attended a wedding here. Well planned but needs some more seating outside whilst people are waiting around for photos. If we had had a seat we might have had a drink in the sunshine
