Fantastic location, very friendly staff and super food. The rooms are old world with plenty of character. One negative thing was we were hoping to watch rugby on the Saturday which was on BBC however the televisions did not receive this only BBC Wales.

Situated up a single lane - ample car parking - reception was friendly - hotel room warm and comfortable only a little old fashioned - breakfast was cooked to order and excellent.Staff were really efficient and friendly.

Stayed here for one night with our six year old, as we were visiting the Winter Festival in Shrewsbury. The staff were all very friendly indeed and we stayed in bad snowy weather, which the hotel dealt with well. We ate in the Hotel's restaurant in the evening and the food was of a high standard. As there was a Christmas party taking place our room was moved to an area that would not be effected by the noise, which we appreciated. My son's put-you-up bed was way too soft with a dreadful mattress and he had trouble getting comfy, but the room itself was pleasant. Nice to find hot chocolate as well as tea and coffee available and two bottles of water. The shower was poorly designed and leaked water all over the floor every time it was used, but the bathroom was of a good size and I loved the walk-in closet! The furniture is a bit tired in the bedrooms and dining/bar area and a bit 1980s, trying to look antique - although I did clock a couple of nice genuine pieces of furniture dotted around the hotel. The decor generally could do with a revamp, but service and facilities were very good. The breakfast was nice in the morning, but the scrambled egg appeared to be powered? And the pastries were a bit stale. Aside from that it was certainly not a bad experience as standard hotel breakfasts go. We were even able to order a copy of the Sunday Times in the morning. The waiting, bar and reception staff made a real fuss of our son, which was appreciated and kind. We felt cared for and ate and drank well - which are big plus points!

We had a nice welcome, ona bad snowy day. The drive was pretty clear. We had a ground floor room in the annexe,it was spacious, with a huge sleigh bed, which was very comfy. There was a good quality tea tray, with home made biscuits and filter coffee,it was set in a walk in cupboard, without lighting,so a bit callenging. The bathroom was a good size, with good quality toiletries and large soft towels. Breakfast was really good, with a quality continental selection as well as a hot and very tasty cooked section. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here.
We attended one of the party night's here. The party itself was excellant as was the food and service.
This morning the snow was really high,Paul(the owner) had taken the snow plough out to make it easier for us to get to the main troad. All the staff were concerned for our welfare and were finding out where we were travelling to,to help us on our journey. We really appreciated it. We also found out, they take dogs, for a £10 fee.

The hotel is located in a scenic Shropshire location away from the busy Shrewsbury centre. I reserved one of the Regal Suites and my wife and I were delighted with it. Vary spacious with a 4-poster bed and an excellent view of the gardens and moat. The staff went out of their way to make us feel very welcome and the meal we had in the evening was excellent, I especially recommend the Rib-Eye steak.

Stayed here for one night on a business trip. The room was on the small side but very well appointed and everything worked. The shower in particular was impressively powerful!
The food in the restaurant really was superb, as was the service. Efficient and unobtrusive. There was a good selection of wines too.
One minor downside was the lack of choice of beers & ales in the bar, but perhaps that’s just me being picky.
Overall, a lovely old hotel with many individual quirks, well run, well maintained and highly recommended.

What a wonderful building. An aged manor house complete with moat. Lots of beams in contruction on walls and ceiling. All very well preserved/maintained. Inevitably extended to create more bedrooms but this does not detract fron the originality and history of the old building. Well appointed bedrooms and some 4 poster beds are available. A romantic and calm/restful air pervades. Staff very customer focussed. Lovely grounds. This would make an ideal venue for a wedding.

Not being one for staying at travelodge or that kind of hotel this was by far a better choice. Loved the old wonky building, beautiful garden and moat. Good powerful shower, comfy bed, and an excellent full English breakfast in the morning

We had to make a last minute booking and the reception staff were very helpful. By the time we booked, it was after housekeeping had left but an extra bed was made up for us and the welcome was relaxing. The room was super; a metal framed four poster and a separate sofabed in a lounge room. Good service in the bar and an excellent service at breakfast with a tasty range of products.

Our only issue (which may well be restricted to our particular room, 14) was that the walls were very thin and we were woken by the late return of our neighbours as they used their bathroom and pottered around, with a similar awakening as they readied the next morning. It might be worthwhile requesting a quieter room in future (but I stress that we were late booking).

It's a super venue with freindliness wherever you find people; reception, managers, restaurant staff... The location is easy for the town and parking is plentiful.

We stayed here for a romantic overnight stay which had been gifted to us. Very quaint hotel, old building full of character and delightful gardens - although these were being used by a wedding. (Lovely wedding venue!) Our room was in the modern block, clean pretty and bijoux but had all expected facilities plus nice touches such as a jar of sweets! We had dinner in the restaurant and were made to feel very welcome by Malcolm from the moment we arrived. Excellent service and delicious food, wonderfully presented, pricey but not overly so.
Breakfast was slightly disappointing as self service which we didnt expect at this type of hotel and the bacon black pudding etc had sat there too long and were dry hard and tasteless. Overall would def recommend though!

This was the venue for our annual outing for a social group. The main reason for the visit was to see Shrewsbury and its environs. The food was excellent and the bar well stocked. Staff were very attentive, pleasant and helpful. They made our stay very welcome and enjoyable.

My husband and I stayed here for a cheeky weekend away. What a lovely relaxing time we had. From the moment we stepped out of the car and met Malcolm we were made to feel as if we were the only people who mattered, despite there being a wedding on. The staff could not do enough for us. The hotel is quientisenshally English with subtle little touches in the room to make it have that special feel. The homemade biscuits are delicious and we would return for those alone .
The restaurant food was outstanding. The service was outstanding and the staff quite simply went above and beyond what would be expected of them. My husband stays away in hotels all week but this was something very different and something unique. The owners should be very proud of such a wonderful establishment, of what they offer and achieve. We will be back again very soon and thank you so much for a wonderful weekend.
PS can we please have 2 packets of biscuits next time we stay

Quiet peaceful setting overlooking fields. Excellent staff in all areas from start to finish. Good clean room with usual details and accoutrements, with a welcoming glass of sherry. Meals were cooked to a high standard and served attentively. Waiting time for dinner and between course a touch long, even allowing my digestion.

Arrived during a wedding reception - we weren't warned about this. Very busy and extremely noisy. Parking in the normal hotel bays non-existent. Loads of weeding guests blocking the reception area so had to park in hotel overflow and carry our suitcases to the hotel. Not a good start! Reception pleasant but showed us into room 6 where the only window has obscured glass and looks out onto a wall and a a BIOMASS machine. This is a room which as the hotel staff say they 'have' to let out but should never be rated as an executive room. If the Bio-mass machine is left on overnight it makes noises all night - not very pleasant!!
The staff admit that the night staff should turn it off for the night but hadn't on this occasion - not very comforting to the guest. The hotel says it offers the 'highest standards of comfort' - it certainly didn't on this occasion. We weren't the only guests to complain - there were at least two other couples at the desk complaining. A shame because the food was good.

Really loved this place, what a gem in the countryside. Easy to find, easy to park, easy to stay at traditional country hotel.
Restaurant of real quality, service and taste.
Service professional and not too "in your face" like some I've encountered.
Wonderful view from the bedroom window and not too far from Shrewsbury.
Just try it, trust me

My friend got married here recently and I can honestly say it is one of the most stunning venues I have ever been too. The staff were all very friendly and the food for the wedding breakfast was delicious. I would recommend any couples looking for a venue to go and look around this manor. We didn't stay over night, but from what I heard the rooms are lovely too.

We stayed here as my husbands colleague had wedding here. We checked in early so we also had lunch in the restaurant of this hotel. The food was nice but it was not amazing. However, the rooms were very nice, it almost felt you went back in time. The staff was friendly and could not do enough for you. When we went for evening reception they did not have the drink we wanted so we went over to the restaurant where we had a meal (it is restaurant which is part of hotel) and the bar attendant who was chatting to us earlier while we were waiting for table was still there. He served us and was so kind he send the bottle of gin over to the bar so we could carry on drinking it while at wedding reception. This was such an amazing gesture. The bar attended was so chatty and we laughed so much. Back to room, this was clean and tidy and beds were comfy. The surroundings are also very nice as well as photos as well as just walk around. We really enjoyed our stay and want to say well done to amazing staff.

Stayed overnight at this lovely hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived and the location was perfect for us being close to Shrewsbury but far enough out for peace and quiet. Would certainly return if in the area. Well maintained grounds and hotel and good breakfast in a lovely restaurant.

My niece chose this place as her wedding venue and I have to say it didn't disappoint. A beautiful setting and a well maintained old building with plenty of character and charm. Lots of little nooks and crannies to sit peacefully in. The staff were outstanding polite and cheerful throughout the whole day and worked very hard. Food was first class. A comfortable nights sleep and a great breakfast the next morning, cooked to order with plenty of choice. Would recommend this place.

Wonderful hotel. Great location to tour Shropshire. Staff, food and facilities first rate. Of particular note, the restaurant staff especially Malcolm provided great service, knowledgeable and entertaining.

Breakfast was a serious disappointment. Over=priced, scant quantity and obviously organized
to ct costs. Public rooms were a delight as were the grounds. Private room however was only
mediocre and did not justify the hotel's 4 star rating.

I stayed here during a weekend. It was a perfect retreat for a couples get away. The place has charm and character and the service is excellent. The room was comfortable and well decorated. It was small but we knew about the size so it was no surprise. It got everything that you expected for a hotel of this type. There was a Wedding being celebrated and so it was a bit noisy in the corridor (Not the hotel's fault).
The breakfast was buffet and it was of good quality and was well presented. The dining hall is beautiful and let you relax and pass a good time. The gardens are small but really nice and well maintained and there is parking on site.
I would come back and stay longer to enjoy the surroundings a bit more.
