Details for this year’s Town of Flowers awards have been announced by Shrewsbury in Bloom.
The competition is open to green-fingered residents and businesses within the Shrewsbury Town Council boundary.
This year the categories have been given an overhaul and now include a new award to recognise the achievements of young gardeners.
Prizes and trophies are available in a number of categories which include:
Commercial Categories
Residential Categories (Front gardens only)
(Winners of categories three and four in 2011 must enter a different category in 2012)
Allotments & Schools (Nomination by Shrewsbury in Bloom Committee/Allotment Associations only)
In addition to the main category winners, judges are able to award special discretionary prizes. These awards allow the judges to recognise individual areas of outstanding merit or innovation.
Councillor Jackie Brennand, chairman of Shrewsbury in Bloom said: “We always have a fantastic response to our Town of Flowers competition and the Shrewsbury in Bloom committee really enjoys seeing all the wonderful efforts our residents and businesses put into creating their gardens.
"This year we are hoping to attract more entrants than ever before by opening up the competition to young gardeners for the first time.”
Entries should be returned to Debbie Entwistle, Shrewsbury Town Council, Guildhall, Frankwell Quay, Shrewsbury, SY3 8HR no later than July 9.
Prizes will be awarded at a special ceremony on October 15.
