The chairman of award-winning caravan and motorhome dealership, Salop Leisure, has praised the major contribution made to the company by his personal assistant who is changing roles.
Barbara Morris has worked for the Shrewsbury-based company for 21 years in various roles, including accounts, marketing and latterly as PA to chairman Tony Bywater and joint managing directors Mark Bebb and Dylan Roberts.
She was involved in the process to create the company’s first website and to set up a telesales department, but her duties have latterly been to support the directors as well as handling human resources and caravan holiday home insurance matters.
“Barbara has played a major role in the successful development of our business over the past 21 years,” said Mr Bywater. “She has touched virtually every aspect and every department.”
Barbara, who is reducing her hours to three days a week, is working alongside her successor, Liesa Harris, temporarily to pass on her knowledge and experience before focusing solely on HR and holiday home insurance.
“The company has grown massively since I joined 21 years ago but it has still managed to keep its family feel and it does look after the staff,” she said. “I never imagined the company would grow this much but there has always been a determination to make it the best it can possibly be.
“I think the secret of the company’s success has been the investment in its people, customer loyalty and the directors’ vision that the leisure industry would grow and people would want to spend money on their leisure time.
“We have always promoted Britain as being a wonderful place for people to spend their leisure time.”
Salop Leisure employs 140 staff and has sales centres in Shrewsbury, Machynlleth and Stourport-on-Severn.
