Americana powerhouse trio Jaywalkers are coming to The Hive, Shrewsbury on Saturday March 29th as part of their nationwide Album Launch Tour.
This month, they are set to release their eagerly awaited new album ‘Move On’ on February 28th, 2025, with the album launch on March 1st at London's Green Note. The new album delivers the band's virtuosic brand of Americana with a sound that feels both fresh and familiar, with the three outstanding musicians' tight bond and well-crafted, tasteful arrangements on full display.
Jaywalkers are an English Americana trio featuring Jay Bradberry (lead vocals, violin), Mike Giverin (mandolin) and Lucille Williams (double bass). After years of touring and perfecting their craft, Jaywalkers are ready to release their highly anticipated fifth album. Drawing from a melting pot of influences from Country heartbreak to Bluegrass dynamism, the combination of powerhouse bass, flame-fingered mandolin, blistering fiddle and three-part harmonies pack a punch as fiery as Jay's lead vocals.
There’s no better way to experience Jaywalkers than in person. Their live shows are fun, intimate, and full of the kind of energy that can only come from a band completely immersed in the music they create. In 2025, Jaywalkers will be taking the stage for an extensive “Album Launch” tour, bringing their new album to fans around the UK, including London’s Green Note, Cafe #9 in Sheffield and The Hive in Shrewsbury. Full tour details below.
Move On kicks off with first single, 'The Radio', an upbeat, tongue-in-cheek opener written from the perspective of a musician who has never been played on the radio and is questioning their decision to keep playing. The soaring vocals, tight instrumental arrangement and foot-tapping beat of these independent musicians answer the question the song asks. 'The Longest Day’ and 'Gone Forever' could easily be placed as good old-fashioned heartbreak songs, but in fact speak to the real-time impact of climate change, respectively describing wildfire destruction and wildlife extinction. Instrumental tracks like 'Flight of the Snipe' (a declining species of black and yellow striped bird found in wet grassland in the UK) show off the instrumental virtuosity of the trio, while they switch into a laid-back, Blues mode to leave their mark on an old jazz standard "Ain't Nobody's Business', which they first saw performed by Willie Nelson.
The album features International Bluegrass Music Association award-winning musicians adding a touch of flatpicking and dobro on a couple of tracks, while the vast majority of the playing is adeptly carried out by the trio themselves.
Since reaching the finals of the BBC Young Folk Awards in 2008, Jaywalkers have toured regularly across the UK and Europe, honing their craft and releasing four albums and one EP to date. Mandolin maestro Mike Giverin is also the chief songwriter, and the band's originals cover themes including the travails of the travelling musician, saving the planet and even tales of being stranded halfway up a mountain. All of these stand proudly alongside their clever covers, foot-stomping bluegrass tunes, and superb interpretations of old country classics. In Jay Bradberry, the band has a truly sensational lead singer and fiddle player, and double bassist Lucille Williams is one of the best around, breaking out impressive slap bass alongside rock-solid timing, tasteand tone.
With a passion for storytelling and a dedication to their craft, the band's previous albums have earned them a rightful place in the roots music community, and Move On is sure to cement that place.
