Shrewsbury College and Jobcentre Plus are joining forces to offer help and guidance to anyone in Shropshire seeking employment. Applicants can even apply on the spot!

A Jobs Fair will be held at the College, on Thursday, 16, April, from 10am until 1pm. People of any age wanting more advice, support and information about employment are invited to attend. 

Employers with current job vacancies will be attending the event and will be accepting applications on the day. Staff will be on hand from the College and Jobcentre Plus to answer questions regarding career options, progression routes, retraining and funding, as well as offering writing tips for application and CVs.

Attendees considering retraining or enrolling onto a course will be able to sign-up on the day. Staff will also be available to discuss Apprenticeships which the College offers in a wide range of sectors with many county employers and Traineeships in Hospitality and Construction.

Shrewsbury College officially launched ‘The Agency’ in February - an all-encompassing support centre to help students progress and/or gain employment. The Agency is designed to support student progression onto higher education or employment by helping students develop their personal skills and qualities. The jobs fair will give people the opportunity to meet The Agency staff and find out more about its role in the college and the local community. 

Laura Jeffrey, Employment Team Leader in The Agency, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people looking for a job, wanting advice or considering retraining, to get valuable information and support from our specialist staff and local employers. It is also a great chance for employers looking to fill vacancies to speak to potential employees.”

Employers with current job vacancies or which are considering hiring in the near future are invited to attend the event and can book an exhibition stand for free, by emailing lauraj@shrewsbury.ac.uk.  Priority will be given to employers with live vacancies.
