Love Plants is based at Salop Leisure in Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury-based Love Plants garden centre has expanded its facilities with the opening of a brand-new, open-plan polytunnel alongside a space dedicated to seeds, bulbs, accessories and composts.

This expansion marks another milestone for the garden centre, which is based at caravan and motorhome dealership Salop Leisure’s Emstrey headquarters, as it continues to cater to the needs of a growing customer base.

The new, open plan polytunnel offers a spacious, modern environment for showcasing an even wider variety of plants, ensuring customers have access to an extensive selection of quality horticultural options.

Additionally, the expanded space for seeds, bulbs, accessories, composts and soils allows for a broader offering, making Love Plants a one-stop destination for all gardening essentials.

This exciting development follows a record-breaking festive season for the garden centre. Christmas 2024 saw Love Plants sell more Christmas trees than ever before, despite challenging weather conditions.

The success was further amplified by the debut of a Christmas Market, which proved to be hugely popular and a highlight of the holiday season.

Fran Barnes, chief executive of the Horticultural Trades Association (HTA), praised the resilience and innovation of garden centres across the country, including Love Plants.

“Despite the volatile weather, garden centres have remained a welcoming destination for customers, with a strong start to the Christmas shopping season and the ongoing popularity of our members’ café and restaurant offerings,” she said.

“Sales of real Christmas trees increased by 43%, artificial trees rose by 26% and catering sales grew by 9%. It’s evident that garden centres provide a unique experience that keeps customers returning. Additionally, sales of Christmas lights rose by 18%, and tree decorations increased by 15%.”

A Love Plants spokesman said: “The expansion reflects our commitment to enhancing the shopping experience for our customers. The success of our Christmas Market and record-breaking tree sales are a testament to the loyalty of our customers and the dedication of our team.

“We look forward to welcoming even more visitors to discover what’s new at Love Plants.

Tom Pountney, Love Plants’ general manager, added: “We are looking forward to an exciting year ahead, combining a visit to browse the extensive Holiday Home village and enjoying a relaxing coffee and cake in Love Coffee.

“With easy access parking and a wide range of stock, now’s the perfect time to start planning your 2025 garden.”

With these latest developments, Love Plants continues to strengthen its reputation as a leading garden centre in Shrewsbury, offering exceptional products and a welcoming environment for gardening enthusiasts.
