Marcus Willis and Freya Christie, who have both enjoyed tournament success at The Shrewsbury Club, are returning this week to take part in a Pro-Am exhibition match.
They will be playing at a hospitality event arranged during the Budgen Motors ITF World Tennis Tour M25 tournament at The Shrewsbury Club.
They have been invited to play a one-set Pro-Am doubles exhibition match as part of a networking party, sponsored by Codebreak and Team4You, on Friday night, February 11.
Dave Courteen, The Shrewsbury Club’s managing director, said: “We are delighted that Marcus and Freya will be joining us to play alongside players from local tennis clubs.
“It promises to be a really fun event and we are looking forward to it.
“Both Marcus, who memorably faced Roger Federer on Centre Court in the second round at Wimbledon in 2016, and Freya have impressive records playing at The Shrewsbury Club over the years.
“They have both reached singles and doubles finals here, with Freya featuring in the women’s final of the UK Pro League as recently as November.”
He added: “Next Friday’s event will be the perfect way for guests to kick off the weekend, with street food, live music and the chance to watch some entertaining tennis.
“There’s only a few tickets remaining, priced £25, so we advise anyone who would like to come along to book them as soon as possible.”
Meanwhile, final preparations are being made at The Shrewsbury Club ahead of welcoming rising British and international tennis stars to Shropshire for the $25,000 International Tennis Federation event.
The Shrewsbury tournament, part of the LTA Performance Competitions Calendar, will be the sixth ITF event in Great Britain this year, with well over 40 weeks of either international ranking point or prize money earning opportunities taking place in Britain during the year.
The primary aim of the 2022 calendar is to provide significantly enhanced playing opportunities for British players at each age and stage of the performance player pathway in Britain.
The new competitions calendar covers each area of the performance pathway from under-10s through to adult. There will be more playing opportunities on home soil and more chances to win ranking points without having to travel abroad.
The final qualifying round at the Sundorne Road venue is next Monday, February 7, with the main draw matches beginning the following day.
The men’s tournament will continue throughout next week, with the singles and doubles finals on Saturday, February 12.
Tickets are on sale for spectators to enjoy the action from court-side stands.
Daily admission tickets start from £5 and rise to £15 for finals day, with a weekly pass, which will guarantee a seat for all of the tournament’s matches, costing £30.
