The Shrewsbury Club will celebrate National Fitness Day next week by running an exciting programme of free fitness classes at some of the town's best known landmarks.
This will be the third National Fitness Day - which is backed by ukactive, the health club industry's national body - and bosses at The Shrewsbury Club have put together a series of events for local people to join in with on Wednesday, September 7.
Fun activity sessions are planned at the Quarry Park, Shrewsbury Castle, in the grounds of the town's library, Mardol Quay and Lyth Hill as the nation's biggest annual celebration of fitness and physical activity gears up to get Shrewsbury active.
The Shrewsbury Club, on Sundorne Road, will also be opening its doors on the day for non-members to use its excellent facilities for free as they aim to get as many people involved as possible.
Alvin Ward, the general manager of The Shrewsbury Club, said: "It is really important that people are as active as they can be. We're coming off the back of the Olympics, which is always a celebration of sport, when people watch sports they wouldn't usually and get motivated by the stories they hear. Everyone can enjoy exercise and activity.
"This year's National Fitness Day falls on the same day as the Paralympics begin in Rio, so we have put together a series of events which will hopefully encourage people to really want to take part.
"We've got a busy programme planned at iconic venues around the town while we would also love to see as many people as possible at The Shrewsbury Club on September 7. They are welcome to join us free of charge and choose an activity. It might be for a swim, to play tennis, or to do a fitness class - the choice is theirs."
He added he was particularly excited about the classes being held around the town and hopes lots of people will register in advance to take part.
The day's fun begins at 10am with Aerobics in the grounds of Shrewsbury Castle. It will be followed at 11am by a Yoga session held by the Charles Darwin statue in front of Shrewsbury Library and at 1.30pm by a Zumba class at the bandstand in the town's Quarry Park, which will offer lovely views of St Chad's Church.
Next stop at 2.30pm will be the Quantum Leap statue on Mardol Quay for a 30-minute high-intensity interval training workout, designed to improve strength and build lean muscle.
The events will conclude at 4pm with a NIA fitness class at Lyth Hill countryside site near Bayston Hill, which will also provide panoramic views of the south Shropshire Hills, The Wrekin, Wenlock Edge and the Stiperstones.
Alvin added: "We are really excited to be holding a series of activities at iconic settings across Shrewsbury on September 7 that anyone is welcome to join in with. They are free to attend and will be run by our friendly instructors at The Shrewsbury Club."
