A group of young plumbers from Shrewsbury have joined forces to restore warmth into Oswestry’s Rugby Club, as part of a community project.
The group of Level 3 Plumbing students from Shrewsbury College, spent a week at Granville Park, installing radiators, which previously the club was having to cope without, donated to the club by Oswestry’s Orthopaedic Hospital.
Chris Hesketh, Plumbing tutor at the College and first-team player at the club, helped organise the project, which took just under a week to complete. He said: “The students were an absolute privilege to take out into industry. They worked in a professional manner and represented not only the college, but themselves brilliantly.
“This has given them an insight into the industry and will hopefully encourage them to look for an Apprenticeship in the future to continue with their development within the industry.”
On completion of the project, Club chairman, Don Howell, said: "It's great to see young guys with such a great skill set and attitude. The rugby club is extremely grateful for the work they carried out and looks forward to working with them again in the future. These community partnerships are what it's all about.
“They were all very professional and now, thanks to them, we have a very warm clubhouse. A special mention must go to their lecturer (and current first team player) Chris Hesketh for organising this. Thanks once again.”
Bradley Hughes, 18 from Church Stretton, was one of the students who took part in the project, said: “We all really enjoyed going out and working in a real scenario, rather just in the workshop. We were paired up and tasked with installing one radiator between the two of us. This was the first time I’d done some work experience and I’m looking forward to the next opportunity.”
