A specialist plants centre in Shrewsbury has reported a ‘tree-mendous’ festive period with record sales of Christmas trees.
With just a week to go until Christmas Day, Love Plants has surpassed last year’s record of 830 sales and manager Tim Robinson is hoping to exceed 1,000 by Christmas Eve.
The most trees sold in one day by Tim and his team currently stands at 135, but that total could be under threat this week.
“What it really satisfying is that a lot of customers who bought trees from us last year have returned this Christmas,” said Tim. “We have also attracted a lot more customers to the business this year, which may account for the record sales.
“The prices and quality of the trees that we are selling are very good and many of them are grown locally, which supports the growers.”
In addition to cut Fraser Fir, Nordmann and Blue Spruce varieties, Love Plants also sells potted Christmas trees, which can continue growing in the garden following the festive season rather than being recycled.
Tim explained that Nordmann trees tend to be the most popular with customers because they are better at retaining moisture and therefore don’t shed needles.
Love Plants is based at Salop Leisure’s Shrewsbury headquarters, which has welcomed thousands of customers during December to ‘The Salop Christmas Adventure’.
An exciting festive programme includes a skating rink, Santa’s Grotto and afternoon teas with Santa. Weekends have seen an average of 300 children visit the grotto, which is open until Christmas Eve.
