The accessories shop at leading caravan dealership Salop Leisure in Shrewsbury is enjoying a record year for sales.
Andy Harding, accessory shop manager, says sales are running 20 per cent up on the same period last year, with caravan awnings in particularly high demand.
The shop, which stocks a wide range of items for caravanners and campers, reflects booming sales of motorhomes and touring caravans at Salop Leisure this summer.
The company is soon to launch a Salop Leisure shop on eBay, which will make it even easier for customers from outside the region to buy accessories from the company.
“The record sales in our accessories shop is yet another indicator that more people are spending their holidays in Britain this year and are turning to touring caravans and motorhomes,” said Salop Leisure’s chairman Tony Bywater.
“The demand for caravan awnings is significant because they attach to touring caravans or motorhomes to double their size, which indicates to us that extended families are going away on holiday together.
“All our research indicates that an increasing number of British families are opting for the freedom that caravan and motorhome ownership offers and this trend is set to continue in future years.
“Our sales of touring caravans and motorhomes are racing ahead of this time last year and we are seeing a lot of first time buyers.
“It’s all great news for tourist destinations in the UK who appear to be on course for a very successful summer season. It underlines yet again the value of the tourism industry to the UK economy.”
