Evans Easyspace in Shrewsbury helped one of their clients, Energize to hold a fundraising event at their centre. ‘Shine a Light’ is a national campaign which aims to celebrate the success of Community Games and mark one year since the Olympic Torch relay took place and at the same time awoke the interest of the nation. As part of the campaign the Energize team who are based at The Rural Enterprise Centre, Shrewsbury marked the occasion when the torch passed through our County for the first time by inviting the Rural Enterprise Centre, general public and its clients to join them in a special challenge.
On Thursday 30th May 2013, the Energize team ran a virtual re-creation of the Olympic Torch Relay which was run through Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin for the first time one year ago to the day. Nikki Readyhough, Chris Tate, Kevin Rose and Michelle Jones staff of Evans Easyspace all got their running shoes on and got involved in the event as well as Some of Shrewsbury Centres clients including Dexs Midnight Runners, Taybar, Zen Communications and many more.
They all completed the 66.5 mile distance that the torch took through our County in one day on a treadmill and hand bike in the reception of the centre.
Knights Table café also provided cakes and refreshments for the event. Energize managed to raise funds to support both their Community Games grant scheme and Macmillan Cancer Care in the County, and also to raise awareness of Community Games and the excellent work that their local Community Games organisers did to bring more sport and cultural activities to your communities.
