Shrewsbury College is opening its doors this month (November) for its biggest open event in the calendar and offering 2016 school-leavers a chance to find out more about the exciting opportunities on offer.
The College is inviting anyone interested in studying full-time courses to attend its forthcoming open evening on Thursday, 12 November, from 5 – 8pm at London Road.
Prospective students and parents/carers will be able to view facilities across the entire campus, which boosts; a modern, state-of-the-art commercial salon, Evolve, a fully equipped training hair & beauty Academy, Evolve Academy, Origins commercial restaurant and industry-standard training kitchens, a well-equipped Engineering and Construction Centre, two new music studios with Roland Academy status, a performance theatre, a 3G sports pitch and a new student zone which includes hot and cold food facilities, TV’s, social and relaxation areas plus a student learning centre.
Course tutors will be on hand to offer course-related demonstrations and talks and answer any course queries. The commercial salon, Evolve, and restaurant, Origins, will also be open for viewing.
The College saw over 1500 full-time students enrol onto courses in September and higher education (HE) numbers increased by by over 20% compared to 2014-15.
Beth Coxon, 16, from Shrewsbury, enrolled on to the Performing Arts course in September. Since starting at the College Beth has taken part in community performances including Spooky Walks at Attingham Park and Jailhouse Tours, Zombie Lockdown at the Dana Prison.
She said: “I have found my time since September very welcoming and all members of staff have helped me in the transition from school to college and have been very nice. I’ve taken part in a lot of events in relation to my course already!
“I chose Shrewsbury College over other colleges I visited, because of the great facilities, in particular, the dance studio and theatre. The atmosphere at the College during my first visit was really welcoming and it looked like great environment which would suit me.
“When I started, I found the enrolment process very well organised and everyone was on hand to answer any questions I had – it was very welcoming and friendly. I would most definitely recommend the College to anybody- young or old as the facilities are outstanding.”
The College has enhanced its programmes of study and ways of combining different subjects, so now you can take a different approach to study - at whatever level you’re at. You can combine Level 3 vocational diplomas with an A level or a Level 2 diploma with GCSEs.
As well as full-time courses for school leavers, the College offers a wide range of Apprenticeships and Traineeships for anyone over the age of 16. There are also university level courses and over 300 part time courses for adults who are looking for improve at work or try a course for fun, and staff will be available to talk to anyone interested in one of these.
Subject presentations will be held throughout the evening including course information and guidance and information onplus financial, study and travel support will be available. Visitors will also be able to attend talks about The Agency, which was set up to support students with their study and career guidance, including offering students comprehensive enrichment programmes.
Complimentary refreshments will be served throughout the evening in the new Student Zone – The Hub.
