In return for their hard work during Global Entrepreneurship Week, Shrewsbury College has been given a High Impact Award.

During the week, which was held to inspire the next generation of budding business leaders and encourage entrepreneurial spirit, the College welcomed highly successful international, national and regional business people to share their start-up stories in a series of talks and workshops.

Talks were held from a variety of entrepreneurs and businesses including; Dave Courteen, Managing Director at Imagine Spa, Phil Allmark, from Asset Surfacing Ltd and Rybrook Mini - who exhibited two mini coopers at the London Road campus.

The High Impact Award, from the Global Entrepreneurship Week Team (GEW), recognises organisations that provide role models, offer practical support, develop enterprise capabilities and evaluate success.

Pras Boolaky (CORR), from the GEW, said: “The GEW Team would like to congratulate Shrewsbury College on this achievement and thank them for playing such an important role. The success of the entire campaign rests on the commitment of organisations such as the College, and we hope they enjoyed being part of the 2013 campaign.”

Sarah Probert, Curriculum Leader for Business at Shrewsbury College, said: “Itis important for our students to have the opportunity to hear from highly successful businesses and to engage in national business events such as the GEW.

“We have high expectations for our students and believe that learning should take place in a real-life context. This can be through students starting their own businesses to working closely with our network of supporters to provide enriching events such as this.”

Principal of Shrewsbury College, Steve Wain, added: “I’d like to thank all of the businesses that took part and who have helped us to achieve this national award. We are very proud to have been recognised and look forward to continuing to work on such events.“

Jack Goddard Year Two BTEC National Student, said: The event was very informative and taught me new skills about promotions and public relations. It is inspiring to hear personal stories of how businesses and companies started and to hear how real people made a success of their careers.”
