A family-run firm of Shrewsbury funeral directors is proving its commitment to the environment by its recent installation of solar panels to one of its local funeral homes.

Aubrey Kirkham Funeral Directors has recently partnered with local supplier Sky Energy to install 16 solar panels and one solar inverter, a direct current output unit, to its dedicated funeral home to reduce its impact on the environment as well as increase its sustainability.

The firm, which has premises in Shrewsbury, Four Crosses and Welshpool, had a 4kW Solar PV system installed by a team from county-based Sky Energy Installations Ltd.

Aubrey Kirkham said: “We’ve always been deeply committed to helping the environment, and with the topic becoming of ever-growing concern, we wanted to play our part in further reducing our carbon footprint whilst increasing sustainable energy production.

"We are dedicated to providing the best possible service to local people, and these panels are helping us implement a more eco-friendly approach. We’ve already had some really positive feedback from the local community, and are keen to have them installed at our other properties too over the next few months.”

The Solar PV Panels are a photovoltaic system which uses one or more solar panels to convert the sun’s radiation into energy, and then electricity, with an output of 4kW.

"The system consists of the highest quality all black mono crystalline modules, a top of the range Sunny Boy inverter, and an energy monitor which allows the firm to see exactly what it is generating anywhere through a wireless monitoring system.

Helen Morris of Sky Energy Installations Ltd, explained: “Many people think that solar panels require hot, sunny weather, but this is not the case, as the modern photovoltaic panels can produce electricity in all weather conditions.

"The longevity and certainty of the government schemes are continuing to provide a strong and sustainable foundation for growth within the solar sector, and we’re thrilled Aubrey Kirkham Funeral Directors have taken this huge step in helping the environment.”
