The evening, which marks the Christmas lights switch-on and the start of late-night shopping in the town, is being co-ordinated by Shrewsbury Town Council, Shropshire Council, Shrewsbury Shopping Centres and Shop in the Loop.
This year’s Christmas Cracker will see performances from brass bands and choirs, street artists, Santa’s sleigh, as well as the return of last year’s popular lantern parade which will culminate in the Square for the official lights switch-on at 7pm.
There will also be an extra special bumper family competition launched on the night, in conjunction with the shopping centres and other local retailers.
Local businesses are being asked to support the event, which brings hundreds of festive shoppers into town every year. In return for sponsorship, businesses will be offered inclusion in pre and post publicity, and a guaranteed advert in the official event programme.
John Hall, one of the event organisers said: “We are planning magical event to mark the launch of the Christmas lights and late night shopping in the town but we need your support to make it happen.
"Unfortunately, the past few years has seen funding for the Christmas lights switch-on diminish. Many businesses and retailers benefit from the footfall generated by the event and it’s a time-honoured tradition we don’t want to lose.
"We are not asking for large amounts, whatever individual businesses can afford. We want to make this a real community affair – together we can deliver a real cracker of an event!”
