Bluebird Care Shropshire was named the best care business of the year at the prestigious Shropshire Partners in Care Awards at a glittering 1920s themed awards ceremony.

Not only did the company, which provides at-home care enabling people to stay living as independently as possible, scoop the main prize, but supervisor Kirsty Old was also named Domiciliary Carer of the Year.

The company, based in Bayston Hill Shrewsbury, but also covering Church Stretton, Oswestry, Much Wenlock and surrounding areas, has been running for five years and employs 75 people.

Director of the company, said the recognition of the work the company has been providing, was “absolutely fantastic”.

Finalists

The company was a finalist in three categories including the Dementia Carer of the Year category, with carer Hope Fox and won the Domilliary Carer of the Year award and Care Business of the Year for over 50 employees. Awards were presented by multi Gold Medal winning Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE.

Mr Barnes: "Kirsty progressed through the ranks on merit and is highly respected by staff and customers.

"Now that Kirsty is a supervisor, she has quickly developed a reputation for turning around very difficult care situations and is now a “must have” supervisor for several social workers! We are very proud of her and the award was most deserved.”

Expansion

As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to providing the best standards of care in Shropshire, Bluebird Care has expanded its existing business and recently expanded into the provision of care for children and helping people with learning difficulties.

Mr Barnes said: "We are absolutely passionate about delivering a consistently high standard of care all the time, listening to our customers and our staff and working towards creating an environment where the lives and outcomes of customers are enriched.

"We aim to operate in an open and professional manner in all we do and respond quickly to changing circumstances. We have employed many new care staff in the last 12 months as well as three new members of our management team.

Centre of Excellence

"We operate our own ‘Centre of Excellence’ where we carry out all induction and regular in-house training with specialist trainers and we support individual staff to improve their skills in specialist areas.

“We have passed all of our recent CQC inspections with flying colours and have recently worked with the Mayfair Centre in Church Stretton as they launched the “Care-4-Me at Home” scheme.

"It sees us working as part of a multi-disciplinary team with Church Stretton Medical Practice, Shropshire CCG, ShropDoc and the District Nursing teams; with the aim of preventing people going into hospital unnecessarily. It’s a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week service.

Proud

“Its great to be recognised for our work, we work hard together as a team and hope that it shows in the care we give to vulnerable people in Shropshire. I was really proud of them all on Friday.”
