A Shropshire organisation which helps to improve the lives of communities across the county is appealing for people to remember them in their will.
The Community Foundation for Shropshire and Telford will be helping more people than ever with charitable grants as it celebrates its 21st anniversary next year.
The Community Foundation is launching its will legacy scheme for the New Year and is urging more people to consider leaving a donation after their death.
Lieutenant Colonel Edward Marvin, director of the Shrewsbury-based charity, said its aim was to ‘create a culture of giving that will change people’s lives’.
He said: “This is a real opportunity for people to leave a lasting legacy and make a valuable contribution to their community. Our grants are vital to help enhance the quality of life for communities and our work makes a huge difference to the people across the county.
“We are now launching our will legacy scheme and appeal to people to consider making an important contribution to the Community Foundation as an endowment or legacy to their community. It does not have to be a huge amount as every penny counts. The people of Shropshire love the county for many reasons so I appeal to everyone to support our county communities by including a donation in their will.
“We are working hard to increase the grants we have to help transform people’s lives and the funding plays a vital part in helping communities to develop.”
The Community Foundation, which is based on Old Potts Way in Shrewsbury, sources grants from external organisations and relies heavily on donations from the business and private sectors to make improvements for disadvantaged or vulnerable members of the community.
It also helps people fill out grant application forms through an e-learning initiative, which is part of the Telford Pulling Together project.
