Many Shropshire homes are putting up their Christmas trees and decorations much earlier this year to lift spirts during the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
That’s the view of Tim Robinson, manager of Love Plants, a specialist plants centre based at caravan and motorhome dealership Salop Leisure’s Shrewsbury headquarters.
He has reported a record start to fresh Christmas trees sales, which began two weeks earlier than other years.
“I think people are buying their Christmas trees earlier this year to try and lift their spirits during the lockdown,” said Tim. “If sales continue as they have started, we are going to have a bumper year.
“Both potted and freshly cut Christmas trees are selling well and we have a good range of varieties to choose from. Fraser Fir and Nordmann Fir are particularly good for not shedding their needles.
“We source all our trees from Britain as we think it’s important to support British growers during these difficult times.
“With so many new houses having been built in Shrewsbury this year, we are hoping that their owners will buy their fresh Christmas trees from us.”
In addition to Nordman Fir and Fraser Fir, Love Plants also stocks Norway Spruce, Blue Spruce and Noble Fir trees, with prices starting at £22. The company normally sells more than 1,000 Christmas trees over the festive period, together with wreaths, decorations and festive plants.
The trees are only part of the festive offering at Salop Leisure which will be running The Salop Christmas Adventure from December 3 to 23 at the company’s Love2Stay resort, subject to Covid-19 rules.
Festive attractions will include Shrewsbury's largest outdoor synthetic skating rink, virtual Santa and Elf Dashes to raise money to support the good work of Shrewsbury Town in the Community, Santa’s Grotto, Tea with Santa, Christmas wreath making, festive afternoon tea and morning festive warmers for adults and craft activities and Christmas films for children.
