Join us for a celebration of indie sci-fi, fantasy and speculative fiction, hosted by the Shropshire DM.

Spotlight Indie 2025 is a one-day celebration of indie books, writing and creativity.

It takes place at The Nerdy Café in Shrewsbury on Saturday, September 20th, from 10am to 7pm.

Join us to discover a world of epic adventures, otherworldly realms and incredible stories, celebrating the impact and joy of indie creation.

Featuring author panels, live interviews, book signings and hands-on workshops.

Plus, a special interview with featured guest Graham Austin King.

Hosted by The Shropshire DM.

This event is specifically crafted for independent writers, creatives, and fans of indie works. It features a mix of panels that offer valuable writing tips and techniques to help aspiring indie authors get started, along with opportunities for readers to gain deeper insights into the authors works and discover some new favourite reads.

The price of entry (£5.49) includes any standard hot drink PLUS the first 20 ticket holders to arrive on the day will receive a gift bag.

Our brand new masterclass sessions are one hour smaller workshops led by one of our speakers, giving a more in-depth look at writing craft.

These are pre-bookable and are limited to 12 people per class, giving you a more interactive experience.

11.00 - 12.00 Masterclass: Writing Better Combat Scenes with Lee C Conley

Lee is a musician and horror writer living in the historic city of Lincoln, alongside being a practitioner and instructor of historical martial arts and swordsmanship. His debut fantasy series The Dead Sagas, includes the novels A Ritual of Bone, A Ritual of Flesh and the upcoming A Ritual of Blood.


13.30 - 14.30 Masterclass: The Self Publishing Experience with Graham Austin King

A standout success on the indie writing scene, Graham is the acclaimed author of The Riven Wyrde Saga trilogy, The Lore of Prometheus and Faithless. He will be leading a masterclass on the self-publishing experience and getting the best out of your book.


15.30 - 16.30 Masterclass: Fantasy World Building with Stephen Aryan

Stephen Aryan is the author of the Age of Darkness, Age of Dread trilogies as well as the Quest Heroes duology. His debut, Battlemage, was a finalist for the David Gemmell Morningstar Award and won the inaugural Hellfest Inferno Prize. The Judas Blossom, the first in a Persian-inspired fantasy trilogy, and the sequel, The Blood Dimmed Tide was published in July 2024. His self-published novella, New York Minute was released in 2024.


17:00 - 18:00 Masterclass: Getting Started - Writing for Audio with Chris Gregory

Chris Gregory is the producer, sound designer and director of the BSFA award winning and chart-topping sci-fi audio drama series The Dex Legacy. The founder and co-director of the production company Alternative Stories alongside Emily Inkpen, Chris has worked on many stand-alone and serial dramas, mostly in speculative fiction.
