This is Manor House with a modern bedroom extension added.we stopped in a twin room within the manor.the room was period but comfortable, the bathroom was bright with his and hers sinks and an added extra a bidet.my wife liked the make up table in the bathroom, there was also plenty of hot water.we eat in the restaurant both nights and the food was to a high standard, the first night I had fillet of beef which was excellent.we had a bottle of wine both nights and it was good value for money.all the staff were friendly and efficient.the manor itself is a lovely old building, you could sense it’s history.another bonus was the two black swans on what looked like part of the old moat as you walked up to the entrance.

We have known this hotel for more than 40 years so it has been part of our lives especially for celebrations. Living in Italy we haven't been there for 10 years. We booked anyway for a celebratory dinner and overnight stay. Excited at the prospect we arrived at 11.30 ish and went straight to visit the black swans. They were still there!!!!! We then kind of booked in. But we were greeted by the manager and in a whirlwind of greetings from our guests: I did manage to fill in the form and had "Brian" carry our bags to the room. The room was excellent but no time to dally we were informed other guests were arriving. The drinks were served with Malcolm the manager making sure all was in order. A prodigious dinner was served, the guests being given their requested meals without flaw. Coffee and the meal was over. Sandwiches in the bar later wit drinks Malcolm or one of the staff always being on hand to service our needs. Retiring to a very comfortable room and bed we rose well rested to a sumptuous breakfast.
All in all a wonderful experience enhanced by the manager and staff my wife and I could not have been more satisfied and well served by this genuinely happy team.
THANK YOU ALBRIGHT HUSSEY

What a lovely hotel. We attended a wedding here 28th October and would recommend it to all readers.
The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms were warm, bed was comfortable, shower was fantastic, the breakfast was the icing on the cake and was brilliant.
My friends wedding went of without a hitch and they had a great weekend.
This hotel is well worth the 5 stars I have given it. Thank you Malcolm and Team.

We stayed for one night which wasn't long enough as would have liked to stay longer. Check in was quick and the lady that checked us in was friendly and helpful. We stayed in a suite which was a lovely big room with a four poster bed overlooking the gardens. All members of staff that we came in contact with were friendly. Breakfast was good with plenty of selection. I would recommend this hotel and if visiting Shrewsbury would certainly stay again.

This hotel is very old and has a lot of history and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was good at dinner, even though menu was relatively limited. The disappointment came with the room. It was a standard double and was shabby. The in-the-bath shower was dirty and the bathroom looked old and dated. The bedroom looked very unloved. The carpet hadn't been hoovered as there were bits on the floor and a hairgrip. I might go for dinner, but would certainly not stay over.

We have just returned from a weekend stay at this lovely hotel. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and was welcoming from the minute we arrived. Unfortunately, due to the hotel being nearly fully booked we were given a room in an annexe. It was adequate but a little disappointing. The walls were extremely thin and it was a little noisy with people coming and going and slamming doors. However, overall we were happy and the staff more than made up for any disappointments. They were so friendly, especially Malcolm and Xavier. The food was great, especially the breakfast which couldn't be faulted. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a getaway in the Shropshire countryside.

Superb tremendous staff with excellent customer service customer happiness standards
Go more than that extra mile definitely go above and beyond for its customers even when we came down late for breakfast the lovely lady chef accommodated us still and was lovely .
Malcom And his team were fantastic he is the General Manager and outstanding host .
Barry the night porter a very kind accommodating pleasant chap a pleasure to chat to and Kirsten who did my original booking and our checkout outstanding
My advice to people is book the hotel direct not through a booking agency because it is much better Kirsten was amazing when Booking.com messed my original booking up but she sorted it and was so lovely efficient and brill so well done to her .
We took our KCS dog who everyone loved and they treated her like a human princess and they are a super dog friendly hotel all the staff love dogs and treat them as if they were their own which we loved
We ate in the restaurant for my husbands birthday the food was just to die for and the restaurant beautiful period historic surroundings were just so lovely

What a delightful find. Wanted a couple of nights up near Shrewsbury to visit some friends are the sample menu is what really did it for me. The food is very very good.

Its based around a near 600 year old pad and has been expanded a bit, but fundamentally is very old. So the comments on TA about cobwebs or a bit or dust or dirt, or a draught ... well .. that what you get with very old places. They need airflow or get damp (so go to a Premier Inn if you want sterile). This said, on the Friday is was very very cold. You can get heaters for the rooms and they will take the chill off. This is very old building on top of a hill so when its cold and windy, expect a bit of chill. Rooms are nice and no problem at all.

We booked dinner for both nights as we could not be bothered to travel and so glad we did. Just amazing food (if the attachments are not stripped by TA then I posted images). The Haggis sausages with the Guinea fowl were just amazing ! Lovely breakfast as well: Full English, pastries, Kippers & Smoked Haddock ... even made some porridge for someone who asked for it.

Its a small hotel and in the bar area people talked to each other. Pleasant atmosphere with invisible bar staff... until you needed a top up and would miraculously just appear ... all so very chilled, relaxed and pleasant.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful but the star of the show was Malcolm (the Manager). He made everyone chuckle and not hard to see why the staff like working for him. Nothing was too much trouble.

They do weddings there and I was surprised that last year it was 98 but there is a large function room so I would doubt there would be any real disturbance (unlike many a hotel). I am amazed the Black Swans they have are not bored of them all being just by their moat by now.

We travel around a fair bit and this is hotel is most definitely on the 'must return too' list

We've stayed here a number of times, and always enjoyed it, the staff are always so pleasant and a reason for repeat custom. This last time was disappointing, the rooms are tired/dated and the breakfast has gone from a sit down relaxing order from a small menu table service, to a buffet style self service (meaning eggs and bacon etc are sat there a while and not as appealing as a freshly cooked). Lovely setting, staff as friendly as ever but the place needs a little investment and changing the breakfast to buffet has really changed the overall experience here. Next visit to Shrewsbury, despite the lovely staff/hotel setting, we will be looking to stay elsewhere as per night it's not the cheapest of stays when service elements have been removed and rooms do look dated and possibly like some aspects need a good deep-clean.

The Hotel is set in a fairly remote area and dates back to 1524 and is not far from Shrewsbury and The Mere at Ellesmere. In the fields close by to the Hotel is the site of the Battle of Shrewsbury
Fought on 21 July 1403, King Henry IV and an army led by a bloke from Tottenham called Hotspur created mayhem with each other ,You know Lads will be lads and all that.

The Hotel itself is full of charm and charisma like an old lady taking her retirement seriously. Yes its old its not a new build It is what it is.
The Staff that we met were ever so friendly and helpful Malcom was a Star, Janette was friendly and attentive at breakfast .Javier gets a mention in despatches for his attentiveness and quiet but efficient manner.but needs to change his Football Team Support ,I mean Who has even heard of Real Madrid?
The food was out of this world Superb. The room was comfortable The shower was spot on the only thing that we could pick up on was that we could hear the guests in the next room which was ok as it went quiet around 11 ish and we had a good kip.
May have been a different story if they had decided to try and strangle each other at
3 am, but thankfully that never happened.
The hotel is Totally Pet Friendly which was Fantastic for our Pooch.
There are apparently lots of Weddings held here throughout the year and you can see why. Its an ideal place with a Fantastic Dining area for any Wedding Party. One of the best we have seen anyway.
