Local business owner Ros Houston of Monwood Bed and Breakfast, has announced she will be taking on the gruelling challenge of walking the full length of the Thames, a massive 189 miles starting in May; this will be in aid of the very worthy charitable cause Help for Heroes.

Together with a friend Doreen, Ros has very personal reasons for taking on this challenge – her daughter, who works at John Radcliffe hospital married a Captain in the Army a few short weeks ago and she says “if I can help his friends on the front line then I feel I am making a difference”.

Ros goes on to say about herself and Doreen

“We are two ladies of a certain age with a sense of adventure who discovered the Thames path by accident last year when doing a short walk around Abingdon.  Having researched the Thames path, we decided it would be good to complete a recognised path rather than going for 'short' walks.  We then decided it would be good to put our efforts to good use by raising money for a charity, and as a new mother in law of a serving officer, Ros proposed that H4H should be the beneficiary of our efforts.  We will set out from Kemble, aiming for Tilehurst in May, covering some 90+ miles over 7 days - the greatest consecutive number of days we have ever walked, B&B ing our way along the Thames, rucksacks on our backs!   We will complete the full walk of 189 miles in August this year.”

Their aim is to raise £500 for Help for Heroes – if you would like to support them by making a donation then please visit the Help for Heroes Bmycharity site.

I will chart their progress here so please if you wish to you are able to leave your Good Luck messages here.

Good Luck Ladies!
