Grand Belfairs Nature Reserve photo contest
Have you taken some good photos of landscape or wildlife at Belfairs Nature Reserve?
If so, they could win you a prize as well a potential place in a 2012 calendar. And they would also help a Dormouse keep house!
Southend Dormouse Group has organised the photo competition to help support its work. The group has installed nest boxes at Belfairs to encourage these rare, shy dormice to expand their families, and group members monitor the results.
The competition closes on Monday 31st October, and the pictures submitted must have been taken since Friday 1st January 2010 within Hadleigh Great Wood (including Belfairs Nature Reserve and Dodd’s Grove.)
Photographs must not have been computer enhanced - though cropping is allowed - and must not have been previously published or sold.
The winning photographs will be included in a 2012 calendar – but there will no payment for the pictures chosen – and the winner of the best picture of all, will receive two theatre vouchers,
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: “Belfairs Nature Reserve is a very popular area of natural beauty and we believe that many people may already have taken pictures of trees, plants and wildlife throughout the changing seasons there.
“However, there is also still plenty of time to do so, before the closing date for the competition on Monday 31st October. This contest is a very exciting opportunity for people to share their photographs, and help support the Dormouse Group, which has successfully encouraged and boosted the population of Dormice – a protected species.
“We very much look forward to seeing the results of the photo competition – which will lead to a unique and very special calendar.”
To enter the competition, email your photo with your name, address and contact number, to ianbrown@southend.gov.uk by Monday 31st October.
