Bumper Bike bonanza at Village Green!
Don’t miss the exciting cycling opportunities during the forthcoming Village Green festival in Chalkwell Park, Southend, on Saturday 30th June.
Visitors to the free arts and music festival – run by the international Arts organisation, Metal - are invited to challenge themselves to cycle on the North Shore track, to take part in a Vintage Bike ride, and to join the audience at a Cycle-in Cinema.
All these activities are organised by Cycle Southend.
The 45 metre North Shore track enables riders to tackle the technical trials – and experience the thrills - of single track riding.
This timber track is suitable for cyclists of most abilities, and is a hugely popular attraction.
Cycle Southend is also staging a breathtaking Vintage Bike Parade from Leigh Library Gardens to Chalkwell Park starting at 11:30am, where participants can ride their own vintage bike or decorate their bike with a vintage theme, or dress up in a vintage costume.
The parade will leave Leigh Library Gardens at 11.30am and arrive at midday at the Leigh Road entrance of Chalkwell Park where others can join the parade too.
They will then continue on through the park to the Cycle-in Cinema where judging takes place for the best bike and best dressed rider.
Meanwhile, from 1pm cyclists are invited to ride into the Cycle-in Cinema – a sustainable version of the Drive-in movies popular in America. Bring your bike to the Cycle-in Cinema marquee and watch short films, or a feature length presentation – all with a cycling theme.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Tony Cox said: “We hope as many people as possible will take part in the fun activities arranged by Cycle Southend for cyclists of all ages and abilities. As well as giving great enjoyment, these ventures will help show people some of the lasting health and environmental benefits of cycling.”
