Changes at Household Waste Recycling Centres
Residents are urged to take note of new operating hours at Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s two Household Waste Recycling Centres.
From this week, the site at Leigh Marshes will close on Wednesdays and the Stock Road site will close on Thursdays.
In addition, the Monday to Friday opening hours of both sites have also changed.
Both sites will now open at 9am from Mondays to Fridays rather than the previous 8am start, but on Saturdays and Sundays both Leigh Marshes and Stock Road will continue to open at 8am.
The closing times have not been altered - they continue to be 4pm from 1st November to 31st January and 5pm from1st February to 31st October.
There will no longer be a late night opening at either site on Tuesdays between 1st May and 31st August.
More information on these new opening hours, and arrangements over public and bank holiday periods, can be found at: www.southend.gov.uk/hwrc or by calling 01702 215006.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Public Protection, Waste and Transport, Councillor Tony Cox said: “Though we had to make changes as part of the Council’s essential budget savings, we have designed these especially to have minimum impact on residents visiting the Household Waste Recycling Centres.
“Both sites tend to have the least number of visitors in the early mornings from Mondays to Fridays and during the day on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
“The late night opening on Tuesdays also had few visitors.
“We can reassure residents that they will still be able to use at least one site on any day of the week, and our Household Waste Recycling Centres continue to be available when there is the highest demand.”
