Council teams up to help new business start-ups

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is teaming up with enterprise agency NWES to offer free monthly drop-in sessions for new businesses.

Southend has an above average number of new business start-ups and the Council is keen to capitalise on the enthusiasm of local entrepreneurs by providing them with free support.

The sessions, which commence on Thursday 28th June, run from 10am to 4pm on the last Thursday of every month at the Tickfield Centre in Tickfield Avenue. Booking is not required.

John Lamb, Deputy Leader and Executive Councillor for Enterprise and Regeneration, said: “I’m delighted to see this support being offered in Southend.

“By teaming up with NWES to make this drop-in service available we are helping to rejuvenate the local economy and doing our bit to pull the country out of recession.

“Small businesses are the life blood of this town and it is vital that all those looking to start up on their own get the right information and advice.

“We must do all we can to guide local entrepreneurs through the early challenges faced by anyone who sets up their own business.”

The drop-in sessions follow hot on the heels of the new ‘Ready for Business’ initiative launched recently by NWES and Barclays Bank.

This includes a free one-day ‘Get Ready for Business’ seminar, reviews of individual business needs and access to a £60million loan fund administered by Barclays.
