Fifteen intrepid young people needed!

An innovative project needs 15 Southend young people aged 16 – 17 who are willing to throw themselves into some new experiences!

This is the chance to join the National Citizen Service (NCS).

The programme gives young people from Year 11 from all backgrounds and with varying abilities, opportunities and support to take on new challenges, learn new skills and make a difference.

It starts on Monday 30th July with a five-day residential course away at Windmill Hill, East Sussex, combining outdoor activities and challenges.

This challenging but fun week will help the team learn how to work well as a unit. Other NCS teams are also likely to be at the same residential centre, so there will be even more new people to meet.

Then there is another residential course, nearer to home, which offers the chance to learn new skills, put these to the test, and to find out more about the local area.

A full-time social action week follows, where teams can meet and consult with local people, and test out ideas. They will decide on, and plan a social action project to carry through for the rest of their time on the programme.

The final section involves young people carrying out their chosen social action project during evenings and weekends, or whatever time works best for those taking part

Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s  Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: “This is an excellent opportunity to for young people to make new friends, enjoy new possibilities; take on challenges they have never had before; learn new skills, and add more to their CV’s.

“They will have the chance to help make improvements in our community and show others just what young people can achieve.”

Anyone interested in taking part is invited to an NCS recruitment BBQ event on Wednesday 18th July at Wat Tyler Park from 1pm – 4pm
This will be a chance to find out more information, meet staff and other young people taking part in the project.

Transport to and from Wat Tyler Park, Basildon can be provided.
