Young instrumentalists of all standards, aged from seven years old upwards, are invited to join exciting Music for Fun workshops this half term. These are being staged by Southend-on-Sea Borough Council from 10am until 1pm on Monday 18th and Tuesday 19th February, at Southend High School for Girls, Southchurch Boulevard, Southend.
The workshops are suitable for all young musicians from beginners to advanced players. Participants will be divided in three groups: beginners up to grade one, intermediate - for grades two to four, and advanced - grade five plus, and they will work with experienced music tutors to develop their skills.
Players of all instruments are welcome - strings, woodwind, recorders, brass, percussion, keyboards and guitars. A limited number of keyboards and percussion instruments are also available at the workshops. Each group will learn new music as well as creating their own music, and finding out about other instruments.
These workshops are a great opportunity to make new friends and learn some new skills. The Tuesday session will finish with an informal concert for family and friends to attend and to share in some of the achievements.
It costs £12 for the two workshops, which can be booked online at www.southend.gov.uk/mff by telephone on 01702 215011 from 8.45am until 5.15pm Mondays to Fridays, or by post to Cultural Development, Southend Civic Centre, Victoria Avenue, Southend, SS2 6ER.
Any young player is welcome to take part in the workshops, which cater for all standards and abilities in a fun and informal way.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Executive Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Councillor Derek Jarvis said: “We are delighted to support these workshops, which give an excellent opportunity for children and young people to develop their musical skills outside school. “They also offer fun and informative activities for children during half term.”
