Park your bike and take the train
A new secure cycle shelter is being officially opened at Southend Victoria Rail Station on Thursday 28th April to boost healthier travel options.
The shelter gives passengers and rail staff a safe and secure place to park their bikes, to encourage them to cycle to and from the station instead of going by car.
Southend-on-Sea Borough Council’s Head of Planning and Transport, Andrew Meddle formally handed over the shelter to senior officials from National Express East Anglia.
Mr Meddle said: “It is a key issue for cyclists to have somewhere safe and secure to park their bikes, so we are hoping this new shelter will further entice people out of their cars.
“Cycling to and from the station is an ideal way to get fitter, to save money on petrol, and to reduce the amount of carbon emissions.
“The shelter was funded through the Government-backed Cycle Southend project to increase cycling in the borough.”
