On Sunday 14th October the Ultimate Dance Challenge is taking place from 11am until 4pm in the secondary hall at Southend Leisure and Tennis Centre, Garon Park, Southend.

It is being organised by Sway Dance in a bid to raise money to help save children's lives around the world. Whether you're a professional, or just love to strut your stuff everyone is encouraged to take part.

You don’t have to dance for the full five hours. If you prefer, try a dance relay by taking turns to keep the dance going. Anything goes – from ballet to Bollywood, salsa to street, tap to the twist – just keep dancing! Then give a shout to your friends, family and colleagues and get them to sponsor you.

The money raised will help children across the world survive their vulnerable first five years. Every year 7.6 million children under five die from easily preventable causes like pneumonia and malnutrition. Save the Children provides vital aid through money raised by these events. This is what your money could buy:

  • £5 can buy ten days' life-saving food for a malnourished child
  • £10 can buy medicine to treat 27 children for life-threatening diarrhoea
  • £50 can pay for 25 blankets to keep babies suffering from deadly pneumonia war
  • £100 can train a health worker to diagnose illnesses and treat sick children
  • £500 can provide enough nutrient-rich food to help 17 children suffering from severe malnutrition

If Sway Dance can raise more than £300 collectively amongst all the dancers, four lucky winners will be entered into a prize draw to win afternoon tea with Arlene Phillips, West End choreographer and TV personality, in London's luxury 5-star Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington, where she will share her top dance tips.

"The Ultimate Dance Challenge is a chance to challenge yourself, have fun and help save children’s lives. I’m so excited to be part of it and can’t wait to meet the winners – good luck and get dancing!"
