Your Community Needs YOU this Christmas

Essex Action is the radio’s regular on-air and online community slot featuring appeals for people to fill volunteering roles in their local communities. It has been running for a year.

Station Manager Nick Hull says “At Christmas, people normally ask you to donate your hard earned cash to a charity or community group. However, with things being as they are, money is tight – so we want you to donate YOU. Or, to be more precise - your time. Across this festive period, we're going to be showcasing a range of community groups and smaller charities that wouldn't normally get any real attention and asking you to lend them a hand.”

Each of the Volunteer Centre’s in the Southend and Chelmsford areas has selected a particular opportunity to showcase on the Essex Action slot on Southend & Chelmsford Radio through the month of December.

Emily Middlemast, Volunteer Centre Coordinator, says: “In Southend we currently have 477 different volunteer roles available. Whether you are interested in clearing woodland or cleaning beaches, gaining some office experience, mentoring young offenders, or helping the homeless; there really is something for everyone. So if you have a few hours to spare, please get in touch. While each of these 477 volunteer roles is vacant, they represent a need in the community of Southend that is not being met. The time you can give is vital to the survival of our charities and community groups that help the people in Southend.”
