Once again Southport is hosting the British National Musical Fireworks Championships from the 9th to the 11th October. This is the eleventh year of what has proved to be one of Southport's most popular events, with seven companies taking part over three nights.
Until last year, six companies competed, but an extra one was included on the Saturday to celebrate the 10th Anniversary. Companies from as far away as Essex and Lincolnshire will each put on a 20 minute display of magnificent fireworks accompanied by music of all genres from classical and traditional to pop.
We have been to at least one evening of the competition every year, in all kinds of weather. Last year it was warm and beautifully calm, so the fireworks hung in the sky, but we have also been subjected to strong winds and sudden torrential downpours. However the atmosphere is always carnival like as the crowds come whatever the weather!
