Cambridgeshire Royals dragon boating youth team members selected for Team GB
Following gruelling time trials in Liverpool's Albert Docks in February, four young paddlers from the Cambridgeshire Royals dragon boat team in St. Neots have been selected to represent Great Britain at the 14th World Nations dragon boat championships in Thailand this year.
Lewis Newark (17), Thomas Evans (16), Ellie Mobbs (16) and George Armiger (17) battled against paddlers from around the UK to earn their places in the GB Under 18's team.
Following medal successes in the European Championships in Brandenburg, Germany in 2018, the youngsters are now training hard and looking forward to travelling to Pattaya on 17th August.
A spokesperson from the Cambridgeshire Royals dragon boat team said “Dragon boat racing is one of the most exciting and inclusive water sports as well as one of the fastest growing team water sports that you can take part in world wide. Due to its current status as an amateur sport, dragon boating receives no funding support and, as such, all costs have to be covered by the teenagers themselves”.
St. Neots Town Council have already kindly awarded £200 to each paddler but the ‘fab four’ are looking for sponsors to help them to raise the remainder of the £2,500 each that it will cost them for training fees, flights, kit, accommodation and transfers. In order to maximise their fundraising efforts, the paddlers will be holding a race night in June and have set up a Crowdfunder page for any local companies or individuals who may want to sponsor them and to help them to achieve their dream of winning gold in Thailand https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/u18s-gb-dragonboat-paddlers-need-you-

I've lived in St Neots since I was 13, and boy how it's changed. I'm always looking to promote everything great in and around our town.
