Priory Junior School Athletes win Quadkids Final !!
Greater Cambridge Athletic Network (GCAN) Quadkids Final
held at Cambridge University Athletic Track
Saturday 5th June 2010
17 pupils from Priory Junior School competed in the Greater Cambridge Athletic Network (GCAN) Quadkids Final at the Cambridge University Athletic Track on Saturday and were thrilled by their success in winning the overall team prize.
QuadKids is a new and exciting sporting concept designed to give more children the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of athletics and also to help identify the stars of tomorrow. QuadKids is a team based competition (4 boys and 4 girls) where each child takes part in four events (sprint, middle distance run, long jump and a throw)
The pupils, aged 9-11 years, many of whom were competing on an athletics track for the first time enjoyed considerable success in all events, achieving many personal bests. Priory won all four of the boys’ events, competing against teams from Cambridge and Impington, with Shaun Parren recording the fastest time in the 75m sprint, Alex O’Hara recording the fastest time in the boys’ 600m, Henry Dalrymple recording the greatest distance in the Long Jump and Alex Lester winning the vortex howler throwing competition. In the girls’ events, Amanda Milligan won a heat of the 75m Sprint and Megan Bunker was just pipped on the line in the closest of finishes in the girls’ 600metres.
Many thanks go to June Swift and the members of the Greater Cambridge Athletic Network (GCAN) for organizing the event.
