ST NEOTS MEN’S VICTORY AT VETERAN FOURS HEAD OF THE RIVER

Two crews from St Neots Rowing Club entered the Veteran Fours Head of the River Race in London on the weekend of 13-14 November, the men’s four claiming victory across the four and a quarter mile (6.8 km) course.

After an early start on Saturday morning, two senior St Neots Rowing Club crews made their way to London to race the Tideway course on the Thames from Mortlake to Putney (ie the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race course in reverse).  Over 200 crews from across the country entered the event, all aiming to put down the fastest time of the day in their respective categories.

An excellent performance was put in by St Neots, with the men’s four claiming victory in the Masters C event with a time of 21 minutes and 42 seconds, winning their category by 15 seconds.  Congratulations go to the crew of Graham Mailer, Clive Emmerson, Kevin Sadler and Mick Staddon, coxed by Charmian Hardwicke.  Not to be forgotten, the women’s four of Ali Brown, Mia Hartwell, Sam Lawrence and Robyn Staddon, coxed by Sarah Porteus, also put in a strong performance, completing the challenging course in a time of 24 minutes and 26 seconds.

Club Captain Mia Hartwell said:

“This was the first time that the ladies had been to the Tideway so it was an experience in itself.  All in all, a great day for St Neots with the men on top form.”

I've lived in St Neots since I was 13, and boy how it's changed. I'm always looking to promote everything great in and around our town.
