Rower turned Triathlete
Ed Porteus, a local ex-rower, competed in his second ever triathlon this weekend at the Bedford Traktors Triathlon. Porteus, born and bred in St. Neots was recently Captain and Chairman of St. Neots Rowing Club but has now hung up his oar in favour of Speedos, two wheels and a pair of trainers, competing in Triathlons for Nicetri Club St. Neots.
The sprint triathlon consisted of a 400m swim in Robinson’s pool, a 24k bike section around Bedford finishing with a 5k run around Priory Park. Porteus had a strong swim and bike section setting him up for a good finish; however disaster struck as both his calves cramped up on the run.
After stopping to stretch them he was able to get back into his rhythm and work back through the field. With a sprint finish Porteus finished in a strong time of 1hr 06mins & 45secs.
This positioned him 1st in his Category (25-29) and 3rd overall out of a field of 204. Porteus was very pleased with his result, particularly as it was his second triathlon!
He is now aiming to emulate his fellow club members in obtaining an age group GB vest in the near future.
I've lived in St Neots since I was 13, and boy how it's changed. I'm always looking to promote everything great in and around our town.
