ST NEOTS OUT IN FORCE AT BEDFORD
St Neots Rowing Club saw sixteen crews take part in the Bedford Rowing Club Small Boats Head on Sunday 15th April. Several rowers used this event to make their debuts in relatively good weather conditions.
The most successful crew was that of Nick Shorten and Adam Williams who beat two other crews in the novice pair event with a winning time of 8.02. Natasha Wilson and Mia Hartwell did extremely well in their women’s novice double, coming 4th out of 9 crews. They had previously raced as a women’s intermediate 3 crew, which helped to settle their nerves for the second category race. Sarah Davies and Dione Page doubled up to take part in their first event as a women’s novice double, and were joined by Ali Brown in her first Masters D single sculls category and Stuart Williams in his first Masters C Novice sculls.
The other junior boys’ and women’s crews all had good races in their various disciplines. The most senior rower of the group was John Knights who had a very consistent race in the Masters F/G/I single sculls category, finishing 3 out of 5. The masters categories are determined by the average age of a crew or the age of the single sculler.
Club Captain Alistair Mackie said:
“This was a good event for those taking their first steps into racing on less familiar waters and despite the odd squally shower the conditions were relatively good. It was good to see a trailer full of boats turning out to support this last head race of the season. Attention will now turn to the shorter sprint racing events throughout the summer.”

I've lived in St Neots since I was 13, and boy how it's changed. I'm always looking to promote everything great in and around our town.
