St Neots Rowing - Race Report
Tideway challenge for rowers
St Neots rowing club arrived in London last Sunday for the Master’s Head of the River, on the Thames. The biggest time-trial style event in the country for rowers over the age of 27 rowing in four man boats, the rowing club had two crews competing against competition from around the entire UK.
The men’s MastersC crew of Clive Emmerson, Graham Mailer, Mick Staddon, and Kev Sadler coxed by Mia Hartwell, finished 5th of 11 in their category, completing the course in 22 minutes 48.4 seconds just 0.1 seconds behind their long-standing rivals, a MastersD crew from Peterborough City rowing club.
The senior women also had a MastersC crew entered, finishing 2nd of four in their category. The crew of Ali Brown, Tash Wilson, Helen Knowles, and Sarah Davies, coxed by Sarah Porteus, battled through the rough conditions with waves soaking the rowers, finishing in a time of 25 minutes 40.3 seconds.
Both crews were happy with their performance, though all felt they had more speed to come, so are looking forward to more races in the future.
I've lived in St Neots since I was 13, and boy how it's changed. I'm always looking to promote everything great in and around our town.
