Winners of St Neots schools Christmas banner competition announced!
Schools across St Neots were invited to take part in the competition to design the new banners, which will replace the Armed Forces Day flags currently hanging on the lamposts in the town.
The competition received entries for the three age group categories, 3 – 5 years, 6 – 8 years and 9 – 11 years. The winners of the banner competition are; Dream Brearely age 6 from Priory Park Infant School for her angel design and Little Paxton School winners Chloe Johnson age 5 with her Merry Christmas picture, and Macie Smith age 10 for her snowman design.
A special award was also given to Masie Handcock age 11, from Priory Park Junior School. Her drawing will be turned into a Christmas card, which Mayor Andrew Hansard will be using his official card this year.
The winners have all been invited to switch on the town lights at 5pm on 30 November and have received cinema tickets donated by Cineworld St Neots, who sponsored the event.
Councillor Ian Gardner said: “The standard of the entries received was excellent and we would like to congratulate the winners.”
Debbie King, Events Coordinator for St Neots Town Council said: “The event has proved to be really popular and we had a tough time selecting the winners. They will be a great addition to the sparkling new Christmas lights.”
The competition promotes the Christmas Lights Switch On which takes place on the Market Square on Sunday 30 November from 12 pm. The new town Christmas lights will be switched on at 5pm, followed by fireworks and local headline bands until 7pm.
So keep an eye out for our winners designs around the town!
I've lived in St Neots since I was 13, and boy how it's changed. I'm always looking to promote everything great in and around our town.
