ST NEOTS ROWING REGATTA
24-25 JULY 2010
Rowing clubs from across the region and the country will be descending on the River Great Ouse in St Neots on the weekend of 24-25 July 2010 for St Neots Rowing Club’s Annual Regatta.
Last year’s Regatta saw over 50 clubs represented, from as far away as Maidstone in the south, Tyne in the north and Chester in the west. There were over 450 races across the two days, with an incredible 581 crews competing. This year the Club once again anticipates continuous racing over a 9 hour period on both days.
Entry is free to spectators and there will be a barbecue, licensed bar and other refreshments available. Racing starts at 9 am on Saturday, through to 7 pm, and from 8.30 on Sunday until 6 pm. Races will include both sculling and sweep-oar rowing and competitors from junior and senior categories. Presentations will be made to the winning crews by the Mayor at the close of Saturday’s racing.
Ed Porteus, Club Captain, said:
“This year’s Regatta promises to be yet another fantastic weekend of racing for competitors and spectators alike. Many local people and businesses have put in considerable time and effort to make the weekend a big success, so we really hope as many people as possible can join us down by the river, opposite the Priory Centre, to cheer on the crews, whilst enjoying the refreshments on offer. ”
The Club hosted its first Regatta in 1874. It now forms the largest river-based regatta in the Eastern Region and one of the largest two-day rowing events nationwide. For further information see www.stneotsrc.co.uk.
