HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has reminded taxpayers that they need to file their outstanding 2009/10 returns online by 31 January 2011.
Anyone submitting a return after this date could receive a £100 late-filing penalty.
To register for online filing, people need to visit the HMRC website at www.hmrc.gov.uk/online.
They will be given a User ID, and an Activation Code will be posted to them within seven working days. Once they have activated the Self Assessment service, they can file online.
31 January 2011 is also the deadline for paying any tax owed for the 2009/10 tax year.
