The cross of St George is being flown above the civic centre building in Stafford to celebrate the English ashes victory.
Cricket loving chief executive of Stafford Borough Council, Ian Thompson, ordered the flag to be flown moments after the team’s first triumph on Australian soil in 24 years.
The flag is normally only flown on St Georges Day.
Mr Thompson said: “The Ashes victory has cheered the country up and taken our minds off the very wintry conditions so I thought it was right we should fly the flag to celebrate this great success.”
