At LAST the proliferation of pointless road signs is to be tackled in Rutland. Itʼs going to be done gradually as itʼs apparently quite expensive to get rid of them and fill the holes. Local MP Alan Duncan is in full support as heʼs been campaigning for years to reduce roadsigns across the UK in general - his bill ran out of time at its second reading last year, but heʼs still hoping.
The type of signs to go in Rutland are the sort of ones that tell you not to stop on a main carriageway, or those telling cyclists of pedestrians that they can use a road. Some signs will have been authorised by Leicestershire County Council, including the tourist type signs, so presumably these wonʼt be going.
Do you think this is enough, or would you like to see more signs go? Lots of people hate the amount of brown tourist signs that are around, but tourists do need to know where to visit and presumably the attractions themselves find them useful. Whatʼs your opinion?
