Stamford's Red Lion Square could be a slipping hazard, says a report by the county council's highways comittee. The controversial £1.4m 'facelift' for the square, which was carried out last year, had an assessment carried out recently.
The report voices concerns that the drains in the square are becoming blocked, which could lead to rising surface water that could freeze in cold weather. Night lighting at the crossing is also deemed inadequate - which could mean accidents due to poor visibility of pedestrians on the crossing.

Lots of people fell in Red Lion Square in February due to icy conditions, with Stamford Hospital treating a number of casualties on the same day and an ambulance being called to treat some fallers. Traders called for action over the issue.
So the big White Elephant which is now Red Lion Square is also a public safety hazard! So much for £1.4m of ratepayers money being spent on it - wonder how much the new 'improvements' will cost?
