South American rodent sighted by Sunday driver
According to the rutland Times, a motorist is sure she saw a South American rodent called a capybara whilst driving through Exton in Rutland last Sunday.
It was about 1.30pm when the creature crossed the road in front of her car.
She at first thought it was a young fox as it was about the right size, but then realised that it didn’t have a tail and the walk was wrong. Having seen the South American capybara in the zoo, and after checking on the internet when she got home, she became sure that that was what she had seen.
She's now reported the sighting to Natural England who have two other UK sightings - one in Reading, Berkshire - later thought to be a misidentification, and the other in Upton on Severn, Worcershire which has confirmed.
Apparenly - according to the Daily Star - capybara have been reported living wild in Worcestershire.
The Rutland Times are asking anyone else who's seen them to give them a ring on 01572 758888 or email them on rutland.etorial@ipress.co.uk
