There are no free sporting facilities for young people in Stamford ...
Five years on, the first Stamford Skatepark, constructed on the Recreation Ground in 2003 has been a victim of its own success. The wooden equipment was so badly worn through constant use, that it was no longer cost effective to carry out repairs.
SKDC deemed it unsafe for use in May 2008, and it was removed from the site. Now the young people (up to 50 at a time) who previously used the skatepark, have nowhere to use their skateboards, BMX bikes and roller blades. Many teenagers used to travel from nearby villages to come and use the park.It was used all year round, but particularly during the Summer months
There are no free sporting facilities for young people in Stamford and few places for them to congregate without causing some sort of annoyance to other people.
We need your help to provide a brand new skatepark for the town, designed by a specialist company in consultation with the users. We are currently acquiring quotations for a concrete skatepark low maintenance and quieter than wooden or metal. This will cost in the region of £200,000 to cover all construction, landscaping and future maintenance costs.
How you can help the young people of Stamford
The Stamford Skatepark Committee is made up of volunteers from the community, together with Police Community Support Officers and Stamford Town Councillors.
They are in the process of seeking 'Community Interest Company' status. This will be useful when making significant grant applications, as it shows commitment and transparency of the committee s dealings.
