A brilliant evening with the Pasadena Roof Orchestra
... I went to see the Pasadena Roof Orchestra at the Stamford Corn Exchange Theatre. What an evening of live music! Brilliant entertainment!
Ten extremely talented jazz musicians delighted a full auditorium of Stamford music lovers. For over thirty years the Orchestra has entertained audiences all over the world with their high quality musicianship and here in Stamford we were privileged to an equally fantastic performance.
The infectious beat of popular music from the 1920s and 1930s had every toe tapping and kindled loving memories for many. My memories are a little 'second hand' but none the less equally strong. I can remember my Dad singing along to the Sunday afternoon TV films which regularly featured the pre-war dance bands and music from the roaring 20's.
The Orchestra repertoire included some great tunes such as 'Putting on the Ritz' and 'Tiger Rag', the infectious beat of the 'Charleston' punctuated with a little romance in 'The very thought of you'.
It wasn't just music. The camaraderie between the musicians gave us plenty to watch and the various pieces were introduced with wit and humour.
What tunes did you enjoy most? Any special memories?
Well done to the organisers and the great team at the Stamford Corn Exchange. The evening was in aid of the Friends of Stamford Hospital and the Corn Exchange theatre restoration fund.
